We once had the fusion of spirit and matter--this rigid and dogmatic scientific system of thinking is new, relatively speaking. In the medieval and Renaissance periods in the west, both co-existed. For people--some people--dealing with what is unknown in consciousness is too frightening. They have embraced science exclusively because it is predictable--even if no one has ever seen a quark or proven string theory. Modern life has succumbed to that dogma.

I remember Buzz Aldrin saying about their moon walk to Neil Armstrong--"We missed the whole thing!" He had come to realize their dwelling solely on the scientific aspect of the mission left out awe, and reverence, for where they were, and why, as they walked on the dusty hills of the moon.
