Exploring My Past Stories on Medium
So many worlds to enter
Someone responded to an article I wrote recently asking if I had any more on the same theme, so I went scrolling through my list to see and realized I had over five hundred articles on Medium. I ought to be rich!!
What I also realized is that anything I wrote older than last week, and for sure since 2018, might only be found accidentally by someone looking for essays on sports and misreading my title. That’s the inevitable nature of a platform like Medium — essentially the “news” changes every day.
But it has occurred to me this aspect is not especially desirable, since, after all, every writer wants to have lots of readers for all their grand thoughts and ruminations… :-) Surely, they will enchant others?
But this platform of Medium.com doesn’t allow us re-publish our older stories even when we have a new audience to reach after many years of writing. I’m not sure if that is because of the mysterious SEO tracking device of Google or some other fear of duplication. We can re-publish the same stories outside of Medium, but must inform Google which one is original by using a canonical link.
Did I ever imagine I would become well-versed in the meaning of the word canonical outside of Scripture? In addition, the word according to the Cambridge…
